8:00 - 10:00 am - Growing a Better Structure with Engineered Wood Products
Presented by Mark Weegman, Trus Joist Weyehaeuser
This course will provide a look into how current growth/succession of forests has led to the advent of Engineer Lumber Products (EWP). This will include a discussion on dimension lumber – design, connections, and strength – as well as EWP. From there the course will look at the benefits of using EWP products from floor framing to wall and roof framing. This will include many real-world situations/details where EWP can be used to solve framing dilemmas that traditional lumber products cannot.

Presented by Andy Kuc, Focus on Energy
This session will cover the important details regarding Wisconsin's statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy program - Focus on Energy. Builders will learn how to build high quality homes that are more comfortable, safer, more durable and more energy efficient. Plus, learn how partnering with Focus on Energy will allow access to over $2,000,000 in financial incentives.

11:30 am - 12:30 pm - The Fatal Four
Presented by Matthew Lind, Chippewa Valley Technical College
Construction is among the most dangerous industries in the United States. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that there were 1,061 fatalities in construction 2019. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration states that over 57% of all deaths in construction were due to either Falls, Struck by objects, Electrocutions, and Caught in, or in-between accidents. These four groups have been the “Focus” of OSHA and other Construction Outreach training programs for many years. Although deaths have steadily declined in the workplace, there continue to be accidents and fatalities every day. This interactive session will cover the OSHA Focus Four, also referred to as the “Fatal Four”. The session will focus on understanding and recognizing the fatal four, safe construction practices, injury/accident prevention and employer and employee responsibilities in regard to working safely on the job.

12:30 - 1:30 pm - OSHA Trenching
Presented by Matthew Lind, Chippewa Valley Technical College
Every year hundreds of workers are either injured or killed on the job. The construction industry is not immune to injuries or deaths and saw 1,061 deaths in 2019 alone. One of the biggest contributing factors in these injuries and deaths is improper techniques and safety measures while trenching. This session will cover how to properly dig, stabilize and monitor trenches; tools that can help assist workers in completing their jobs safely; how to recognize unsafe conditions and how to mitigate these situations.

1:30 - 2:30 pm - Understanding Home Solar Energy
Presented by Cameron Olson, Olson Solar Energy, LLC
Solar energy is one of the best renewable energy sources. From improving the environment to cutting energy costs, solar energy is gaining in popularity with homeowners. This session will cover the important information both builders and remodelers should know about solar energy, including: how Solar Photovoltaic panels work, the types of power inverters, how solar works for the home, myths about solar energy, reasons to consider solar energy, the latest and greatest in changing technology and hybrid energy options.
