This session will cover the what and how of construction lien law. You will learn who it applies to and the process and methods of the process.

Fraud Protection - Cheri Hippenbecker, Knight Barry Title United

Per the FBI, in 2023 there were potential losses of over $12.5 Billion due to CyberCrime. In Wisconsin alone the losses amounted to $92,084,459. Join Cheri for a real life story about a construction disbursing project which went wrong and how in August of 2023 in less than 2 days cyber criminals stole $735,099.33. This story is seen through the lens of the ensuing lawsuit against the banks, title company and contractors. Let this loss be your gain with thoughtful discussion on how to STOP the cyber criminals in their tracks.

Codes with the City of Eau Claire - Bill Youngberg, Inspections Manager for the City of Eau Claire

This class, led by the City of Eau Claire building inspectors, offers valuable insights into the key aspects of construction safety, code compliance, and inspection procedures. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of building regulations, common pitfalls, and best practices for ensuring that structures meet all legal and safety standards.

1:45 - 3:45 p.m. Erosion Control - Al RInka, Deputy City Engineer (City of Eau Claire), Michelle Asher, Department of Natural Resources, Leanne Hinke, Department of Natural Resources

This in-depth training course is designed to equip construction professionals, environmental consultants, and project managers with the knowledge and skills needed to manage erosion and sediment runoff effectively. The course focuses on industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and practical strategies to minimize the environmental impact of construction activities.

*New DSPS 4-Hour Class Requirement

As of Nov 1, 2022 four (4) of your 12 CEU credits that are required to renew your license MUST be covered in one 4-hour course on “construction laws and codes and contracts, liability, and risk management.” DSPS requires this to be 1 class that covers all 4 topics. The CVHBA will be offering this 4-hour class as the Contractor Conference’s morning session. Please note that we will be offering this class every other year (2023, 2025, 2027, etc). So if you attend the Contractor Conference every year, you will be covered for your renewals. If you are not able to attend the Contractor Conference, you will need to satisfy this four hour requirement before your renewal. The Wisconsin Builders Association does have an online class available that will meet the class requirement.

What if you are renewing soon, but have already completed your 12 credits?
If as of November 1 you already have your 12 credits completed for your renewal, you will NOT need to take this 4 credit class for this renewal. But WILL need to take it for your next renewal.

What if you have some of your credits towards your renewal, but still need some credits (i.e. you have 10 credits recorded, but need 2 more)?
You WILL be required to take the 4 credit course in order to renew your license. If you have not already completed the 12 credits, you must complete the 4 credit course

The Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association event cancellation policy requires a 5 business day notice for a full refund.
